For use in VM & VPC Numeracy, vocational education, retail, hospitality, small business, applied numeracy/maths and other programs, as suited to your learning programs and cohorts.
- Overview -
A practical vocational numeracy resource that includes 30 two-part activities to assist students in building a suite of essential core vocational numerical skills. The Vocational Numeracy General: Skills Development Booklet offers the opportunity for ongoing weekly skills development and graduated assessment and review.
- In each activity, Part A is a more straightforward ‘quiz-like’ set of questions, whereas Part B offers a more challenging problem-solving style set of questions.
- The first 10 quizzes are aligned to the core numerical functions of addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, order of operations, fractions and decimals, percentages, data and information, quantities and measures, rates and relationships, dollars and cents, and chance and probability.
- The next 20 activities feature a broad and mixed range of numerical skills. The final 5 are more advanced to challenge students’ development of vocational numeracy skills as they approach the end of a unit of study.
- Most questions are written in a word-based format to improve listening skills, functional numerical recognition, analysis, and applied problem-solving skills.
- The activities offer versatile completion methods. Students can use their heads, pen and paper, calculators and devices, and/or teachers have the option to read questions aloud. Students can build their day-to-day numerical confidence with a structured approach that adapts to varying skill levels and promotes critical thinking.
